The middle class transformation in a professional way makes a new social force, the knowledge workers, come to the forefront.
That is a force wich intellectual nourishment is scientific knwoledge applied to society´s problems and wich functions are now essential to the effective functioning of prime services (health, town planning, protection of the environment, administration of the law, military defence, transport, communication, research, pharmaceutical aid, etc.).
By the here published MANIFESTO Gian Paolo Prandstraller stimulates knowledge workers (professionals plus creatives) to unite and to create a body of general representation, able to defend intellectual work´s values, still humbled by policies that do not appreciate their need for the development of an advanced society, and to put an end to the hegemony of the two forces that up to now monopolize the interests´ representation, i.e. Confindustria (the General Confederation of Italian Industry) and subordinate workers´ Trade Unions.











Gian Paolo Prandstraller, emeritus professor of Sociology at Bologna University´s Faculty of Political Science, is the author of several theoretic and research essays on intellectual work, professions, organizations and professional associations in relation to the tranformations imposed by postindustrial society.
For many years he has been defending every kind of intellectual work and has been asking for a strong presence of professionals and creatives in the decisions concerning production, culture and everyday life.
