The first part of the book, based on molecular study, namely molecular signals, analyzes different cell testing technologies. When mentioning these techniques, we refer not only to the mere detection of a single cell product, but to the monitoring of a variety of metabolic processes aimed at the multidimensional phenotypic characterization of cell behavior.

The second part of this book is entirely devoted to the drug synthesis process. Two areas of concern can benefit enormously from the research on the synthesis process in molecular biology and the use of appropriate techniques for this purpose: the elucidation of the stereo-selective synthesis of natural compounds and their analogues and the synthesis of pharmacological compounds derived from DNA or proteins.

The third part presents the analytical methods involved in determining drug-target interactions. In this sense, we discuss the use of proteins in affinity chromatography and the enantioseparation of enantiomers (a molecule which is part of a compound consisting of two molecules, one of which is the mirror image of the other one, without being identical to it).

Aurel Ardelean graduated the Faculty of Biology from “Babes-Bolyai” University of Cluj-Napoca, PhD in biological sciences, specializing geobotany science, Ph.D project leader in the same field.
In 1981 he won “Emanuel Teodorescu” prize of the Romanian Academy. The results of research in geobotany, cellular and molecular biology were published among 4 monographs, 44 books, textbook sand atlases and over 300 articles published in the country and abroad.
Univ. Dr. Aurel Ardelean is one of the main members of the Romanian Academy of Medical Sciences, project manager of grants of the Romanian Academy, CEEX and CNCSIS. He is a member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts from Vienna, and other scientific bodies in the U.S., Brazil, Denmark and Poland. Romanian Presidency gave him in 2004 the National Order of Knight Faithful Service for exceptional merit in Romanian education.
