Detailed fetal neurosonography represents an important part of obstetric ultrasound. This specific examination is based on a bidimensional multiplanar approach obtained through the analysis of a series of axial, sagittal and coronal standardized views. In recent years three-dimensional ultrasound has shown to be a potentially useful tool both in basic and detailed examination of the fetal brain.
Nevertheless, there is still a need for better definition of parameters in use.
In this book, several Authors gave their contribution to illustrate the possible importance of developmental neuropathology describing imaging techniques in the context of fetal pathology on the basis of recent acquisitions.
Alberto Rossi was born in Italy in 1964. He got his degree in Medicine at the University of Padova (Italy) with mark 110/110 et lode in 1990 presenting the thesis “La menopausa precoce: aspetti immunologici”. He graduated as a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Trieste (Italy) with mark 70/70 et lode in 1994 presenting the thesis “L’ Isterectomia per via laparoscopica e per via vaginale: due tecniche a confronto”. He was accredited in 1998 by the Fetal Medicine Foundation of London (Great Britain) for the Screening of Aneuploidies “10-14 Week Scan”. He got the title Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) of Biomedical Technology at the University of Udine (Italy) in 2015. He actually works at the Department of Obstetric and Gynecology of the University of Udine. He is interested in Prenatal Diagnosis, Hysteroscopy and in the Echographic Evaluation of Malignancy of Pelvic Masses. He participates at the multicentric study of IOTA (International Ovarian Tumor Analisys) directed by Prof. Timmerman (KU Leuven Belgium) as Principal Investigator from 2006. He invented a “Pelvic Masses Score” to determinate the nature of pelvic masses by echographic valutation approved by the Scientific International Community. Besides he wrote several scientific works about Fetal Medicine published in Scientific International Journals: he developed a particular three dimensional echograpic application to study the vascular redistribution in the fetal brain of fetuses affected by Fetal Growth Restriction.
